“How much does SEO cost?” is the question I am asked most, and the honest answer is that prices in India vary more than in almost any other service. I have seen quotes from ₹1,500 a month to more than ₹2,00,000 for what clients describe as “the same thing”. They are not the same thing. This guide explains what different budgets actually buy, so you can compare quotes with confidence.
For transparency, here are my own prices, which are also published on my home page: Local SEO and Google Maps at ₹5,000 a month, website SEO plus AEO, GEO and Maps at ₹15,000 a month, Google Business Profile setup at ₹8,000 one time, and international work at $150 to $250 a month. All month to month, no lock-in.
| Type of provider | Typical monthly range | Best suited for |
|---|---|---|
| Very cheap packages | ₹1,500 to ₹4,000 | Rarely worth it. Usually automated work. |
| Experienced freelancer, local SEO | ₹5,000 to ₹15,000 | Single-location local businesses |
| Small agency | ₹15,000 to ₹40,000 | Growing businesses wanting a team |
| Mid-size agency | ₹40,000 to ₹1,00,000 | Multi-location brands, e-commerce |
| Large agency or enterprise | ₹1,00,000 and above | National brands with large sites |
These are broad ranges based on what clients tell me they have been quoted. Prices in Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore tend to be higher than in smaller cities, but the work required to rank does not change much with geography.
At this level there is very little time for real work. Many packages promise “100 backlinks” or “50 directory submissions” each month, which are usually automated and low quality. Some do more harm than good. If budget is very tight, a one-time audit and Google Business Profile fix is usually better value than a cheap monthly plan.
This is where focused local SEO becomes realistic for a single-location business. At ₹5,000, you should expect real Google Business Profile management: category and service optimization, regular posts, citation building, review strategy and a monthly report from your own dashboard. At ₹15,000, you should also get website work: technical fixes, on-page optimization, new service and location pages, some link building and AI search optimization.
Small agencies typically operate here. You may get more content production, a dedicated account manager and some design or social media work. Check how much of the fee goes to actual SEO tasks and who does them.
Larger agencies and multi-channel packages. For e-commerce sites with thousands of products, or brands with dozens of locations, the extra resources can be justified. For a single clinic or shop, much of this cost goes on overheads rather than rankings.
Agencies carry costs that freelancers do not: office rent, sales teams, account managers and management layers. A freelancer charging ₹15,000 and an agency charging ₹40,000 may spend a similar number of hours on your actual SEO. The difference is in what surrounds that work. I wrote an honest comparison in freelance SEO expert vs SEO agency.
For most local businesses, yes, if it is done properly. A single extra patient, client or job a week often covers a month of local SEO. But SEO is not instant, and it is not right for every business at every moment. If your website is broken, your reviews are poor, or you cannot handle more customers, fix those first. I will tell you that at the free audit if it applies.
To make pricing concrete, here is what my ₹5,000 Local SEO and Google Maps plan involves in a typical month. Use it as a benchmark when comparing other quotes, whoever you hire.
At ₹15,000, the plan adds full website work: technical audits and fixes, on-page optimization, new service and location pages, schema, link building and AI search visibility work.
| Service | Typical range in India |
|---|---|
| Google Business Profile setup and full optimization | ₹3,000 to ₹15,000 (mine is ₹8,000) |
| Suspended profile recovery | ₹3,000 to ₹20,000 depending on complexity |
| Full SEO audit with written report | ₹5,000 to ₹50,000 |
| Technical SEO fixes | Depends on the site, often ₹10,000 to ₹50,000 |
| Website rebuild for SEO | ₹25,000 upwards |
Many of these can be avoided or reduced. For example, a good monthly plan usually covers ongoing technical fixes, and many websites can be improved without rebuilding.
A simple calculation helps. Estimate the value of one new customer to your business, taking into account repeat visits. Then estimate how many extra customers per month would make the SEO fee worthwhile.
For a dental clinic where a new patient is worth ₹8,000 over a year, a ₹15,000 monthly plan pays for itself with two new patients a month. For a salon where a new client is worth ₹5,000 a year, a ₹5,000 plan needs one extra client a month. For a manufacturer where one wholesale order is worth ₹2,00,000, a single extra enquiry that converts every few months covers a year of SEO.
Then use your own Business Profile and Search Console data to track whether calls, enquiries and direction requests are actually increasing. If after four to six months they are not, something needs to change.
For businesses in the US, UK, Canada, Australia and the UAE, local SEO pricing is typically much higher than in India. US agencies commonly charge $500 to $3,000 a month for local SEO. Experienced freelancers working remotely from India, myself included, typically charge $150 to $250 a month for Google Business Profile and local SEO work, with reporting in the client’s time zone. US clients can see details on GMB Expert USA or hire me through Upwork.
I regularly take on clients after a bad experience with a cheap package. The usual damage includes hundreds of spammy links that need disavowing, duplicate Google listings created to cover more areas, keyword-stuffed business names that led to suspension, and thin location pages that dragged the whole site down. Cleaning this up often costs more than doing it properly in the first place. If a price looks too good to be true, ask exactly what work is done and how.
For a single-location local business, ₹5,000 to ₹15,000 a month is a reasonable range for focused local SEO and Google Business Profile work done properly. Larger websites, e-commerce and multi-location businesses need more.
Rarely. At that price there is very little time available for real work, and packages often rely on automated directory submissions or low-quality links that do more harm than good.
Larger agencies have higher overheads, account managers and often bundle content, design, ads and social media. For big brands that can be worth it. For a single local business, much of that cost does not translate into rankings.
A one-time audit and fix can be valuable, but rankings need ongoing work because competitors keep improving. Monthly plans with no lock-in give you flexibility without paying for long contracts upfront.
Yes. International local SEO and Google Business Profile work is typically $150 to $250 a month, reflecting different markets, time zones and reporting needs.
