A practical guide to SEO in Chandigarh, from someone who works here
Most pages that call themselves the best SEO expert in Chandigarh say the same three things: number one, guaranteed results, hundreds of happy clients. You cannot check any of it. I would rather explain how search actually works in this city, what I would do for your business in the first ninety days, and what it costs. Then you can decide whether you need me at all.
I have done SEO since 2011. I started as a trainee at Sunsoftware in Chandigarh, ran SEO for a local digital agency for five years, and went freelance in 2018. Since then I have worked for a gynecologist and a hair and skin clinic here in Chandigarh, a liver and gastro hospital in Andhra Pradesh, ladies salons in Dubai, a roofing contractor in Florida, a window repair company in Minnesota and delivery businesses in Ontario. The pattern is the same everywhere. The businesses that win local search are not the ones with the biggest budgets. They are the ones whose Google profile, website and reviews all tell Google the same clear story.
What Chandigarh customers actually type
Search Console data from Tricity clients shows a few habits that are very specific to this region. People add sector numbers to almost everything. They treat Mohali, Panchkula and Zirakpur as part of the same city when they are looking for a doctor or a coaching centre, but not when they are looking for food. And a surprising amount of search happens in Hinglish or Punjabi-influenced spelling.
- “Near me” searches dominate urgent categories such as clinics, pharmacies, car repair and salons. Distance matters most here, so your Google Business Profile does most of the work.
- Sector searches like “physiotherapist sector 44” are won by websites with clear location signals and by profiles whose address and posts mention the sector.
- Tricity-wide searches such as “best IVF centre in Tricity” are won by content, reviews and authority, because Google has to choose between businesses spread across three cities.
- Research searches like “hair transplant cost in Chandigarh” are where blog content and AI answers matter. Whoever answers clearly gets the click and often the enquiry.
The first 90 days of working together
Every account starts with the same sequence, because doing things out of order is the most common way SEO budgets get wasted.
Weeks 1 to 2: audit and quick fixes
I compare your Google Business Profile against the three businesses currently ranking above you. Usually there are obvious gaps: the wrong primary category, missing services, no products, old photos, unanswered reviews, or a phone number that does not match the website. On the website side I check indexing in Search Console, page speed on a mid-range Android phone, title tags, and whether each service has its own page. Most clients see their first profile changes go live in the first week.
Weeks 3 to 6: foundations
This is the unglamorous part. Fixing duplicate listings on Justdial and Sulekha, building consistent citations, writing proper service pages, adding LocalBusiness schema, and cleaning up technical errors. It does not look exciting in a report, but it is usually where the biggest ranking jumps come from.
Weeks 7 to 12: growth
Now the steady work begins. Twenty Google posts a month, review requests that encourage customers to mention the service and sector, location pages for the Tricity areas you actually serve, local links, and answer-style content written for both Google and AI tools. By the end of the third month you will have a clear picture, from your own dashboard, of whether calls and direction requests are moving.
Google Maps ranking in Chandigarh: what moves the needle
Google publicly says local rankings depend on relevance, distance and prominence. In practice, these are the levers I pull most often for Chandigarh businesses, roughly in order of impact:
- Primary category. Changing a clinic from “Medical clinic” to “Dermatologist” can change its visibility overnight. I research the categories your top competitors use before touching yours.
- Review velocity and content. Ten reviews a month that mention “laser hair removal in Sector 35” do far more than fifty generic five-star ratings collected in one week.
- Website landing page. The page your profile links to should match the profile’s main service and mention the sector and city naturally.
- Citations and NAP consistency. Your name, address and phone must match everywhere, down to how you write “SCO” or “Sector 34-A”.
- Photos and posts. Fresh, real photos and weekly posts keep the profile active and improve conversion from views to calls.
If you want the long version, I wrote it up in how to rank higher on Google Maps. And if your business is not showing at all, start with why your business is not showing on Google Maps.
Website SEO for Tricity businesses
Maps rankings bring calls from people who are ready to buy. Website rankings bring the people who are still comparing, and they usually convert into higher value clients. For a Chandigarh business, a good site structure is simple: one page per service, one page per main area you serve, a short FAQ on each page, and a blog that answers the questions customers ask before they call. I handle the technical side too: Core Web Vitals, crawl errors, internal links and schema markup. I work on WordPress, Shopify, Wix and custom sites, and I will only suggest a rebuild if the current site genuinely cannot rank.
Getting found in ChatGPT, Gemini and AI Overviews
A growing share of my clients’ enquiries now start with an AI tool. Someone asks “who is a good gynecologist in Chandigarh for IVF” and gets three names. Those names come from reviews, directories, news mentions and websites that answer questions clearly. This is what people now call AEO (answer engine optimization) and GEO (generative engine optimization). In practice it overlaps heavily with good local SEO, plus a few extra steps: consistent entity information, answer-first content, and structured data that machines can read. My own site is cited in Google AI Overviews for Chandigarh SEO searches, and I use the same method for clients. The details are in my AEO and GEO guide.
Beyond Chandigarh
About half of my work is outside the Tricity. Indian clients in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Ludhiana and other cities work with me remotely, and each city page explains how search differs there. International clients usually hire me through Upwork, and US businesses can see dedicated details on GMB Expert USA. For Google Business Profile setup, verification and suspension recovery across India, my specialist site is GMB Expert India.
Before you hire anyone, including me: search the keyword they are selling you while logged out of Google. If they do not rank for their own service in their own city, ask why. Then ask to see a live client dashboard on a screen share. Anyone doing real work will say yes.
